EADI Book Series

The EADI Global Development Book Series seeks to broaden our understanding of the processes that advance or impede human development, whether from a political, economic, sociological or anthropological perspective.

Development Studies is a multi- and inter-disciplinary field of study, reflecting the multi-disciplinary character of EADI membership. The book series aims to better understand the interplay between social, economic, political, technological, ecological, cultural and gendered aspects of societal change at the local, national, regional and global levels. It focusses on the link between theory, policy and practice.

New formats within the series are also being considered. The first format “From past to present - and vice versa” reminds us that development processes are not ahistorical, gathering papers that draw on historical and contemporary events focussed on a particular region or topic. The second format “From theory to practice - and vice versa” provides a forum for dialogue between academics, policymakers and practitioners. The third “Development roundtable” format serves as a forum where major contributors engage in debate about a specific topic. Original and thought-provoking perspectives based on evidence are encouraged.

The series editors invite manuscripts across all disciplines which address these questions.

Plurinationality and epistemic justice The challenges of intercultural education in Ecuadorian Amazonia

This book examines interculturality in education in Ecuador at the crossroads between an educational model inherited from the colonial past, which still represents white and mestizo hegemony, and a vision of an alternative form of decolonizing education that contributes to the development of an intercultural and plurinational state, as promised in the Ecuadorian Constitution. Championing indigenous voices and discussing the role of education in the fight against poverty and in the recovery of cultural and ecological diversity, the authors propose that quality education for all, a target of the Sustainable Development Goals, should move out of the commonly defined models of technological modernization and cultural globalization that disvalue knowledge from other cultures.

This Open Access edited volume presents twelve African case studies that systematically reconstruct, document and analyse how national governments and other stakeholders took equity into account in their initial policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the onset of the pandemic, many African governments acted quickly to suppress the virus through various public health measures, including lockdowns, mobilizing healthcare resources and designing responses to support the economy and the population.

The country studies are placed within a framework for analysing MNC-local firm interfaces that integrates insights from the spillover and linkage literature.
