Department of International Relations, University of Malta

We examine politics across the globe: the Middle East, East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as transatlantic relations between Europe, Russia, the United States and Latin America. International leadership requires holistic and interdisciplinary approaches and solutions, and the Department of International Relations helps its students to build the necessary skillsets to comprehend and address the strategic challenges of our times.

Founded in 2001, we have over the years taught graduates at B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels who now work at the European Commission, the United Nations, Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in journalism, international business, and a wide range of professions where analytical skills, adaptability, and thinking with one’s own head are a key to success. In a fast changing world with new professions developing at a rapid pace, we believe that, rather than providing students with a static set of knowledge only, critical thinking and flexible analytical approaches are essential.

Our classrooms are based on small group discussions with students from many nationalities across Europe, thanks to a large intake of Erasmus students. We also welcome increasing numbers of non-European students, who further enrich our student body.
