Department of Anthropology and Development Studies, Radbound University

CAOS

The Department of Anthropology and Development Studies is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Its research and teaching examine the interaction between cultural diversity and inequality, drawing on the combination of anthropology and development studies.

The department studies how cultural diversity and socioeconomic inequality intersect, both in public discourse and in social practice, in recognition that the two are often difficult to separate. Its research is embedded in the Radboud Social and Cultural Research Institute and organised around two subthemes, one on inequality and relatedness in multicultural societies, which addresses the effects of migration and mobility on socioeconomic inequality in multicultural states, and one on diversity, markets and natural resources, which examines how diversity shapes the formation of markets, the rules of participation in them and the unequal distribution of power among participants
