Centre for Development Studies, University of Bath

(CDS)

The Centre for Development Studies (CDS) is an interdisciplinary, collaborative research centre committed to critical engagement with emerging trends and issues in international development policy and governance. Our researchers include anthropologists, economists, geographers, political scientists and theorists, psychologists and sociologists. CDS has a strong focus on engagement with the local and has research expertise in countries ranging from Bangladesh to Zambia, Malaysia to Peru. We are committed to making connections between the global north and the global south, relating local, national and international levels of analysis as we work to link theory with practice and research with action. CDS research is organised around, though not limited to, four core themes: gender, childhood and youth; insecurity and conflict; markets, microfinance and social inclusion; wellbeing and human development. Our research attracts major grants and we frequently collaborate with development donors and NGOs from around the world as well as research councils. We also share our knowledge and expertise through a range of academic and professional development study opportunities offered through the Department for Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath.
