Understanding how energy shapes society is among the key issues in the debate on policies to tackle climate change. The politics of energy—including who owns, produces, and governs it—are central to addressing these critical challenges. The history of energy provision can be helpful in searching for alternative ways to pursue environmental sustainability in tandem with both equity and democratic empowerment.
