EJDR Early Career Researcher Initiative Prize Awarded
On the occasion of the EADI/IOB General Conference, our journal, the European Journal of Development Research (EJDR) is delighted to announce the prize for the best paper submitted under the Early Career Researcher Initiative published during the period 2024 – 2025.
The editorial team awarded the prize this year to Dr. Asuka Yamamoto of Japan. The paper titled "Amendment of the Hindu Succession Act and Women’s Human Capital in India: Evidence from the National Family Health Survey” was published in print in Eur J Dev Res 37, 569–592 (2025), and online
The journal thanks The European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI), owner of EJDR, for its engagement since the inception of the initiative, and to Palgrave Macmillan, our publishers, for facilitating the means to award the prize.
EJDR looks forward to the next years and will continue supporting young scholars interested to publish on international development issues.
Brief biography of the author
Dr. Asuka Yamamoto is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies, Kyushu University, Japan, and a Project Associate Professor at the Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration, Kobe University. Her research interests lie in development economics, with a particular focus on religion, health, labour, and rural society in South Asia, especially India. Her recent work includes “Amendment of the Hindu Succession Act and Women’s Human Capital in India: Evidence from the National Family Health Survey” (The European Journal of Development Research, Vol. 37(3), 2025) and “Women’s Inheritance Rights and Wages in India: Measuring Impact Through Unobservable Human Capital Improvements” (Review of Development Economics, Vol. 29(4), 2025).
