Development Humanities

What can the Humanities offer Development Studies? This WG will explore the potential of radical interdisciplinarity in the context of 'development'. It explores whether there is value in promoting more discussion and exchange between scholars and practitioners of Development Studies and those who work in the humanities (literature, music, film, history, languages). It draws its inspiration from the recently established
fields of Environmental Humanities and Medical Humanities which aim to build more holistic approaches to their subjects.

It aims to Initiate discussions and scholarly engagement with a cohort of scholars across Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Possible formats are workshops, conferences and rountables.

Possible topics:

  • Decolonizing development
  • Building innovative methodologies
  • Reimagining development futures
  • Forms of arts-based development interventions
  • Artistic citizenship, participation and inclusion
  • The importance of narrative in the social sciences
