Early Career Session (3): From Research to Policy: Engaging Stakeholders through Adaptable Recommendation Formats

Thursday, 02 July 2026, 13:00 - 14:15

This training session equips early-career researchers with practical strategies to communicate applied research findings effectively to policy audiences. Moving beyond general notions of “research communication” or “scientific mediation,” the module focuses specifically on translating evidence into actionable, policy-relevant recommendations. Participants will explore how to define clear communication objectives, identify target audiences, and select appropriate formats in the context of public policy dialogue. Particular emphasis is placed on aligning key messages with decision-making cycles, institutional constraints, and stakeholder expectations. Through hands-on exercises, the session guides participants step by step in developing policy-oriented outputs—such as policy briefs, policy papers, and op-eds—while ensuring analytical rigor and clarity of argumentation. It also highlights how to adapt formats and messaging to maximize relevance, uptake, and sustained stakeholder engagement.
