SP04 - Activating Gender Justice: From Research to Collective Praxis
Sustainable Development Goals 5 has made clear that women and gender justice have fallen behind considerably, despite being a necessary condition for sustainable, equitable growth. This seed panel invites early-career and senior researchers, as well as practitioners, to engage in a collective reflection on gender justice as a dynamic field within Development Studies. Anchored in the EADI Gender Justice Working Group’s guiding principle—that gender justice is not only an academic framework but a call to action—this panel explores and showcases how gender-focused research can be mobilized for meaningful social transformation.
Participants will examine how gender intersects with race, class, and colonial legacies alongside political and economic decision-making processes. Topics include gender-based violence and systemic responses, the role of women in care work and entrepreneurship, vulnerabilities linked to economic injustice, the implications of feminist decolonial methodologies in both research and practice, among others. The panel also considers the importance of building feminist knowledge production and activism through research.
A central goal of this seed panel is to foster skill-sharing, critical dialogue and contributions, and horizontal learning across generations of scholars and practitioners. By bridging academic and applied knowledge, it creates a space for community-building and collaborative agenda-setting. Particular attention will be given to approaches that challenge hierarchical knowledge systems and promote inclusive, intersectional practices in development research.
We envision this seed panel as a foundation for longer-term collaboration and participation within the Gender Justice Working Group and beyond, encouraging cross-institutional partnerships, mentorship, and co-created feminist research practices
This panel is organised by the EADI Working Group on "Gender justice"
