Contending Regions? A geographical approach to the 2030 Agenda: Panel Discussion at EADI Directors' Meeting

What are the most crucial changes brought about by the SDGs? Where does the Agenda 2030 leave Latin America and Africa? What can we as researchers do? And do we need new economic perspectives such as degrowth to achieve sustainable development? 

The panel session at the recent EADI Directors’ Meeting in Cordoba raised more questions than it provided answers – which did not come unexpected, given that the SDGs are far from being implemented in any country of the world. EADI Directors Meeting issues Statement of Support for British Member Institutes amidst Brexit talks

At the first day of last week's EADI Directors' Meeting in Cordoba, Spain, all participants unanimously endorsed a statement supporting continued European cooperation especially in times of Brexit: "It is ironic that this powerful demonstration of trans-European connectivity is taking place at the same time as the UK’s negotiations around leaving the EU are reaching a critical moment." The negotiations on a new agreement between the EU and the ACP-Countries (African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States) will start during the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2018. Considering the economic and geopolitical strategies of China in Africa on the one hand and the international consensus of implementing the Sustainable Development agenda on the other hand demands new political commitments and new strategies in the European relationship with Africa. This conference highlighted the importance of the African European relationship and offered space for discussions, information and facts about economic and political strategies from different perspectives.
