With Tanja Verena Matheis and Vikram Badhwar: Solidarity is one of the central themes of the EADI ISS general conference, and it has become the binding force of global citizens experiencing an unprecedented pandemic. While many people adjusted well and quickly moved to the use of digital tools and online communication, many of us also face economic, social and personal instabilities in isolation.

In this virtual dialogue, we would like to talk about solidarity at the (inter-)personal level, by first looking within rather than considering the current macro-level transformations of our societies. We would like to talk about building grit and resilience as personal strengths and as prerequisites for solidarity, referring to concepts of positive psychology. The workshop is for researchers, policy-makers, educators, development workers and everyone who would like to reflect upon their experiences of the past few months. We introduce the results of a pop-up video survey from people from around the world sharing their experience with solidarity to spark a conversation. We welcome both participants who would like to share their own experience and those who choose to listen and reflect for themselves. We invite up to 30 participants, first come, first served.

Tanja Verena Matheis is Research Scholar, Dvelpoment Economics at Kassel Univeristy.

Vikram Badhwar is founder of Syngrity
