The impact of large commercial farms on neighbouring smallholders in low-income sub-Saharan Africa remains controversial. This study analyses the evidence and finds no robust evidence of either positive or negative spillovers from commercial farms.

EADI is cooperating in the International Development Undergraduate Conference organized by the  International Development Programme, University of East London (UEL) on 11 March 2017. This event whose topic is "SDGs: What Should Be The Role of 'Developed Nations'?" offers students currently on an undergraduate course or students who have graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree to participate through a Photography Competition or a to present a paper or poster. The Abstract submission deadline is 8 January 2017.

It is with great pleasure that we can already announce the first confirmed speakers for EADI NORDIC 2017! Bertil Tungodden, Senior Researcher at CMI and Professor at the NHH Norwegian School of Economics, will join us for the opening plenary on "Globalisation at the Crossroads: Economy and Inequality". With Uma Kothari's  (University Manchester) contribution we expect an excellent input to the second plenary on "Contesting Reconfigured Boundaries: Migration and Crisis" and for the third plenary on "Sustainability and the Green Shift: Growth, Limitations, Inequalities" we already look forward to Sue Parnell's (University of Cape Town) talk.
