Research seminar in Budapest, Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The EADI Working Group on Transnational Corporations and Development together with the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences organises a research seminar in Budapest on the 14th of December, 2015.

“ost-transition and transition economies in Central and Eastern Europe started their long march towards building a market economy in the place of the planned economy 25 years ago. In that process they relied on multinational companies to different extent: certain countries opened up their economies early on and almost completely to foreign direct investments, while others’ approach was more hesitant. Foreign direct investment and multinational companies investing in these countries had the potential to impact upon the host economies positively, thus helping their development, transition process and catching-up.

This positive impact could have been realised through various channels, one of them is the various types of linkages with local firms, and the other one the spilling over of various innovative activities of the multinational companies to the local economy. The main aim of the seminar is to analyse these issues from various aspects, with various methods and in one or a group of post-transition countries. Ten to twelve papers will be accepted for one-day presentation and discussion, with the aim of publishing the papers in special issues of journals.

The conference will take place in Budapest, 14th of December, 2015. Catering during the seminar and accommodation for one night will be paid for the participants. The working language of the seminar is English. There is no participation fee.
