By adopting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the international community has sent out a strong message for a new global partnership: At the historic 2015 UN Summit the leaders of 193 developing, emerging and industrialised countries jointly agreed upon 17 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Tourism is a major global industry. It’s particularly significant in Germany, where tourism is both a major source of revenue and an industry with many work and career opportunities. These opportunities span both the private and public sector, ranging from hotel management, transportation, travel agencies, to government agencies and organisations dedicated to tourism or natural conservation. Well-trained experts in the field of tourism are in high demand in each of these sectors. The continued growth of the global tourism industry presents both positive and negative changes. On the one hand, it drives job creation and is an essential source of revenue for a plethora of countries. On the other hand, it can have a lasting negative effect on the environment and local cultures. The Sustainable Tourism programme tackles this dilemma through the study of sustainable development, teaching future tourism experts how to strive for balance between the many conflicting social, ecological and economic considerations.

International interdependence of economics as well as interaction of regional economical systems has led to a sharp increase of multinational operating companies and organisations. This development is considered in this course of study. The structure of the course follows a logical sequence of economics, politics, law, and social sciences. Special emphasis is placed on international aspects of these disciplines. Here a special focus is placed on the interdisciplinary link between economics and relevant aspects within the realm of social science. This combination offers graduates the opportunity to not only analyse and assess scientific issues from an economical point of view, but also ethical, moral and social ones as well. The course of study is taught in English in order to better prepare for the requirements of a competitive international job market. Economic questions are assessed in application-oriented ways, and examined with regard to the greater picture, i.e. the economy as a whole. To further bolster graduates’ qualifications, the curriculum of our International Business and Social Sciences programme is defined by a strong interdisciplinary focus that permeates our modules from the first semester onwards.
Continual use of experimental economic research enables students to master application-oriented analysis of real-life decision making situations under controlled laboratory conditions. This, in turn, promotes the development of a profound understanding of the complex interactions in economics.
Graduates of the undergraduate degree programme possess sound knowledge of basic concepts and methods of economics and are knowledgeable about the requirements of economically and socially responsible behaviour. Their qualifications make them ideal candidates for the international job market or for postgraduate studies.

In recent years, professional training for early childhood teachers in Germany has become increasingly academic, creating the need for new state-certified undergraduate degrees such as Early Childhood Education B.A. with government recognition at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. To that end, methods and theories from pedagogy, the humanities, social science and psychology are core pillars of this degree programme.
Practically-oriented instruction, group discussions and video analysis sessions in the KLEX Tutorial Workshop, and a continuous emphasis on developing analytical and communication skills combine to create a degree programme that prepares and qualifies graduates for promising careers in a growing market, or for a master’s degree track at a university in Germany or elsewhere in Europe.

Globalisation is a highly influential force that is not only increasing the interrelatedness between nation states, but also redefining organisations, institutions and individuals’ everyday lives. In professional contexts, this manifests itself in higher mobility requirements for employees. In fact, mobility and intercultural experience are becoming must-have strategies for professional careers. Societies themselves are changing, too, as they find themselves increasingly characterised by their levels of diversity and heterogeneous ways of living. This raises the question for social, political and economic actors of how they can best deal with growing diversity and the challenges it brings. The Gender and Diversity bachelor’s programme delves into questions related to these developments by examining the processes behind these new trends. As a student, you’ll acquire the fundamental knowledge and methods needed for their analysis. Moreover, you’ll obtain profound theoretical and practical knowledge of the instruments of equal opportunities and diversity management, as well as acquire specific competencies that are crucial for tackling the emerging challenges facing organisations, institutions and companies. This requires prolonged study and a profound understanding of the key concepts of ‘gender’ and ‘diversity’.
Gender – the construction of gender and gender relations – is a central mechanism for the production and reproduction of social realities. This is significant for various societal contexts. Diversity refers to different forms of living together and, beyond that, to belonging to different social groups, whether based on age, biological sex, citizenship, heritage, religion, sexuality, colour of skin or disability.
