    The International Development Studies programme is one of the first of its kind in the Czech Republic and in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. With more than one decade of experience in the field of development studies, the Department offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in International Development Studies taught in Czech. The department of International Development Studies also offers a master programme in International Development Studies taught in English and bachelor programme in Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development taught in Czech.

    The department’s faculty consists of researchers covering all the major fields of political science. Our shared objective is to analyze the conditions for political power and the prerequisites for well functioning democratic institutions.

  • Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague (DSGRD)

    The Department of Social Geography and Regional Development is one of the top human geography departments in Czechia and Central Europe as a whole. Its faculty members are the principal investigators of research grants funded by the Czech Science Foundation and the Charles University Science Foundation, and are involved in international research grants. Members of the Department also regularly publish abroad, serve on editorial boards of international academic journals, participate in major international scientific associations, and play an important role in the Czech Geographical Society. The QS World University Ranking by Subject ranked the School of Geography at Charles University’s Faculty of Science in the top one hundred Geography schools/departments in the world in three consecutive years between 2011 and 2013. Only one additional discipline at the entire Charles University ranked in the top one hundred in the same period.

    The Department oversees habilitations and promotions to full professor in the fields of social geography and regional development and in regional and political geography.

  • Institute of International Relations (IIR)

    The Institute of International Relations (IIR) is an independent research organization linked with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The IIR conducts scholarly research, as well as analytical activities concerning international relations and Czech foreign and security policy. It organizes conferences, seminars, and round-table discussions of experts, academics, and political professionals on international relations, security, and development issues.
