HP087 - Dealing with politics of affect in peacebuilding and social conflict research
Convened by Danijela Majstorovic, Maria Cárdenas (both from Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany) and Andrea Carolina Jaramillo Contreras (University of Marburg, Germany)

Research on conflict, social justice and peace is ridden with dilemmas regarding one’s ethics and positionality. In terms of our affective entanglements with the research partners, either parties to/or affected by the conflict, we have come to an understanding of the new foci on materiality and relationality between the discursive and the somatic, unmasking researcher’s responsibility. This harvest panel invites papers dealing with politics of affect as a paradigmatic shift in peace-building and social conflict research and a path toward new, and as we argue, indispensable solidarities from a decolonizing social research methods perspective when dealing with people under threat.
