The EADI Working Group on Multinational Corporationst" invites you to a workshop on global value chains with the aim of organising a special issue in a renowned journal in 2022:

Global value chains have been proliferating in the global economy, and embrace the activities of an increasing number of industries and more and more locations in an increasing number of countries. Without including global value chains in the analysis, we cannot really understand numerous developments in the world economy. Multinational companies are the key and leading actors in global value chains.

Despite this fact, and due to the need for new type of (linked) data to cope with the realities of the world economy, a need which is only partially fulfilled, there is a lack of empirical analysis and evidence on the role of multinational companies in today’s global economy and global value chains.

The workshop is aimed to filling this gap. We would like to invite researchers and scholars dealing with related issues, either through qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methodological approaches. The workshop is planned to be organised in a hybrid format in Budapest, at the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, Institute of World Economy. Besides CERS IWE, the co-organiser is the Centre of Excellence ‘Future value chains’ of the Budapest Business School, University of Applied Sciences.

The planned date of the workshop is 9-10 December, 2021. Thanks to the financial support of EADI and of the organising institutions, participants from less developed countries may be eligible for the reimbursement of their travel and accommodation costs. Catering is provided. Please, send the abstract or paper of your planned presentation to schlett.andrea@krtk.hu by the 20th of October.
