05 Nov 2020

After two successful in-person workshops for communications professionals in the wider field of Development Studies over the last two years, this year’s workshop and get-together of the EADI Research Communications Working Group is going online. In order not to overload participants with virtual input and contribute to zoom fatigue, we have decided to keep our sessions short and concise, with longer breaks in-between. Like in our previous workshops, we place a strong focus on interactive exchange based on the ideas and needs of participants.

Thursday, 5 November, 15.00-16.30 CET:

Going Online: Organising, Running, and Improving Appealing Online Events” (e.g. Workshops, Trainings, and Conferences)

What have we learned since the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic about shifting planning and management of such events online, and conducting events that are useful and appealing? What are the dos and don’ts in successful online event planning and moderation? What are some of the technical possibilities and interactive formats available?

Speakers: Anna-Maria Link and Till Sterzel, adelphi GmbH.

Friday, 6 November, 10.30-12.00 CET:

‘Decolonization’: What does it mean and what are the implications for development communications discourse and practice?

“Decolonization” has become a big buzzword in Development Studies, and efforts are being made to decolonize curricula and knowledge production in general. What does that mean for communication? How can we as communicators sensibly accompany these efforts without falling prey to framings built on colonial legacies?

Speaker: Dr. Lata Narayanaswamv, Associate Professor in the Politics of Global Development,  BA Programme Director, International Development Politics and International Studies (POLIS), University of Leeds

Friday, 6 November 13.00-14.00 CET:

Moderated Interactive Session

This interactive exchange will be structured according to the suggestions made by participants at registration, and during the end of the first session on 5th November.

Facilitator: Yana Brovdiy

We look forward to seeing you online and to vivid and inspiring exchanges!
