Diplomacy and Negotiations (DN)
The curricular approach is interdisciplinary, but based on political science, so prospective students will need at least basic knowledge in such fields as: International Relations, European Integration, Sociology, International Public Law, EU Law, Public Administration, European Public Administration, Communication and Public Relations, Psychology, Philosophy or Political Science.
This program is addressed to university graduates under Bologna system (3 years) or to those who graduated from long term university study programs (4 years).

This Master programme is addressed to prospective students who would like to work in diplomacy or negotiations in an international/ multicultural environment or to those who already do it and would like to enhance their skills. The main goal of this Master Programme is to provide advanced training and qualification in the field of external relations, as a very dynamic and diverse section of the job market. Due to the quality of the curricula, the professional experience and academic credentials of the professors involved in the programme, the master “Diplomacy and Negotiations” has the capacity to help the students develop the necessary competences for a career which requires both solid knowledge in the field of International Relations and specific practical skills (a capacity for synthesis and analysis, verbal and written communication, including in foreign languages, negotiation, creativity, etc.). Dieses eLearning-Angebot ist das Ergebnis eines standortübergreifenden Ringseminars der Universitäten Freiburg, Tübingen, Mainz, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Marburg und Magdeburg im Sommersemester 2018, mit dem Ziel aus der Perspektive der Friedens- und Konfliktforschung Grundlagen, Akteure und Folgen diesen Nexus in neun Modulen zu erarbeiten und kritisch zu reflektieren.

Im Zuge transnationaler Herausforderungen wie Terrorismus, Entwicklungsdefizite oder regionale Konflikte, sind Entwicklung und Sicherheit zentrale Bestandteile einer Afrikapolitik externer Akteure. Während traditionell eine starke Verbindung zwischen diesen beiden Politikfeldern, ein Nexus, besteht, der insbesondere um die Frage kreist, wie viel oder ob Sicherheit für Entwicklung notwendig ist, wird dieser Nexus seit kurzer Zeit um das Politikfeld Migration ergänzt. Die Asylkrise in der Europäischen Union hat dazu geführt, dass Afrika verstärkt aus einer Migrationsperpsektive in den Blick gerät. In diesem Zusammenhang fokussiert deutsche Außenpolitik vermehrt auf die Sahel Zone und Transitstaaten von Afrikanischer Migration, aber auch die Außenpolitik der EU oder Frankreichs weisen einen solchen Fokus auf.
