Certificate; Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Brighton Social protection has become part and parcel of the development response and has been acknowledged as one of the great successes in development policy. Its prominence is likely to rise even further in light of the post-2015 development agenda and an increasingly uncertain world with increasing inequality and volatility.
This course provides a broad-based overview of main approaches to social protection, issues around design and implementation, available evidence and ‘hot topics’ in social protection.
It is organised around three main themes, namely(1) Building a knowledge base on social protection;
(2) Designing and implementing social protection programmes; and (3) Evidence of what works in social protection. The programme will be complemented with sessions on topical issues, which may include social protection and graduation, politics of social protection and child-sensitive social protection.
