Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Changes
The PSRC includes disciplines and research areas from four faculties of the University of Helsinki: the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change belongs to the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences. The PSRC has 240 doctoral candidates. Seventeen of them are funded by the Doctoral Programme. The PSRC is multidisciplinary by nature. It offers lectures, courses, seminars and conferences on a variety of topics from politics and history to research skills and supervision. The PSRC's responsible faculty is the Faculty of Social Sciences.The PSRC includes disciplines and research areas from four faculties of the University of Helsinki: the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.

Development Studies (BA)
The main aim of Development Studies is to contribute to the understanding and explanation of development problems and looking for means for their solution. The problems are approached from several angles: theory and practice, history and the present are brought to bear on them. Global approach will be mixed with national and local ones. While development studies cannot promise definite answers, studying it will enhance the student's capacity to critical thinking.

The syllabus is divided into two main parts. One is comprised of studies common to all students and the other of optional studies. The goal of the common component is to bring the student systematically into the social science discourses concerning development problems and the models for their solution at the general level. It covers global structures and examples of their local manifestations, discusses development theories and their history, and introduces theories and practices of development co-operation and the basics of the relevant social theory and methodology. Optional studies give the student the opportunity to familiarize her/himself with politics, history and culture of selected countries or geographical regions and/or pursue further particular themes or approaches, such as gender, environment, sustainable development, development economics, historical perspective etc.The main aim of Development Studies is to contribute to the understanding and explanation of development problems and looking for means for their solution. Master's Programme in Contemporary Societies
COS is a two-year programme. The programme includes studies in your study track: Sociology; Social and Public Policy, Social Psychology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Development Studies and thematic studies.

- Ethnic Relations and Migration: Sociology and Social Psychology
- Mind and Society: Sociology and Social Psychology
- Socio-Cultural Shifts: Social and Cultural Anthropology; Development Studies
- Sources of Inequalities: Social and Public Policy, Sociology and Development Studies
The thematic pathways highlight the strengths of research at the University of Helsinki and its methodological expertise. As a student here you can include courses from all pathways in your optional studies. The teaching in the COS programme is organised so that you can acquire expertise and skills relevant for working life as well as qualifications for doctoral studies. The unique context offered by the COS programme helps you to develop versatile expertise.
