Vocational Education and Training (VET) Between Poverty Alleviation and Economic Development (08.06. – 12.06.2020)

In recent years there has been increasing international interest in vocational education and training (VET). The discussion about the success factors of VET and the extent dual VET can offer advantages to developing countries is still ongoing. Switzerland, with its own unique and strong VET system has a long tradition of implementing VET in development countries. Experts from the field will bring their experience to bear in the course, which provides an overview of the systems and process dimensions of VET, opportunities for VET implementation as well as implications and constraints. At the end, participants will have strengthened their competence in portfolio management for VET, skills development and labor market policies.Key topics:

Accelerated MA Degree Programme With the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University
- Students selected for this programme will join the Graduate Institute after having completed their four-year bachelor programme at Yale. They will spend a fifth year of studies at the Graduate Institute in order to complete a master degree from the Graduate Institute, Geneva
- Ideal for Yale students who intend to pursue careers in international affairs / development studies, particularly in government agencies, public corporations, economic and development institutions, and related consulting organizations.
At the time of application, students must be in their final year of their undergraduate programme of study at the Jackson Institute and complete all Jackson requirements for the international development or international security track of the major.

Collaborative MA Degree Programme With Pontifícia Universidade Católica Do Rio de Janeiro
Up to four students each year will be able to spend their first year at PUC-Rio, studying for a MA in International Relations as graduates of the Mestrado Profissional em Análise e Gestão de Políticas Internacionais: Resolução de Conflitos e Cooperação para o Desenvolvimento (MAPI) programme of PUC-Rio’s Institute of International Relations (IRI/PUC-Rio), before transferring to Geneva to spend the next two years working towards one of the Graduate Institute’s two interdisciplinary programmes: the Master in Development Studies or the Master in International Affairs. Participating students’ MA theses will be co-directed by one Graduate Institute and one IRI professor.
The programme will be ideal for MAPI students who intend to pursue careers in international affairs / development studies, particularly in government agencies, public corporations, economic and development institutions, and related consulting organizations.
Criteria
The programme is open to students enrolled at the MAPI programme, nominated by IRI/PUC-Rio. Students nominated by IRI/PUC-Rio should have completed at least the equivalent of 180 ECTA at PUC-Rio before they enroll at the Graduate Institute.
Two Graduate Institute MA programme options are available:
- Interdisciplinary Master in International Affairs
- Interdiciplinary Master in Development Studies
Students will have the opportunity to take a French language course beginning in August before fall classes begin on 15 September.
