The aim of the course is to develop participants’ skills in preparing proposals for low carbon climate resilient development in areas such as clean energy access, energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change so that they can mobilise climate finance, particularly from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and catalyse the deployment of climate change solutions in developing countriesTARGET GROUP
Participants from backgrounds related to energy, environment and climate change will be admitted, such as: staff from National Designated Authorities (NDAs), staff from Accredited Entities or those seeking accreditation, entrepreneurs, consultants, project developers, government officials, policy advisors, and staff of utility companies and (I)NGOs.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completion of the course, participants will have gained knowledge and experience related to:
- Current international policy concerning climate change and clean energy
- Funding options for low carbon climate resilient development (e.g. clean energy access, adaptation options, technologies for and promoting of energy efficiency)
- Identifying project opportunities for low carbon climate resilient development
- Assessing sustainable development impacts
- Developing implementation strategies
- Writing bankable and fundable proposals
The course is divided into two parts. Part 1 is an online course of eight modules spread over 16 weeks. All modules of Part 1 must be successfully completed before the start of Part 2 – the two week residential course.

There will be a focus on energy management tools to improve energy efficiency and to create cleaner production, emphasizing that these improvements provide a win-win situation for SMIs as well as helping countries contribute to the Sustainable Energy for All Goal on Energy Efficiency and the Sustainable Energy Development Goals. In particular there is a focus on preparing for reaching the new International Standard on Energy Management (ISO50001).
The course is divided into two parts. Part 1 is an 5 week online course spread out over 10 weeks. All modules of Part 1 must be successfully completed before the start of Part 2 – the two week residential course.TARGET GROUP

The pre-Master's programme is a transfer and bridging programme for students from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) or university Bachelor's students who wish to obtain a university Master's degree but cannot be admitted directly. Students with a related previous education will gain the knowledge and skills needed for participation in the Master’s programme. Once you’ve successfully completed the pre-Master's programme, you’ll be granted admission to the Master’s programme in Environmental & Energy Management. Once you’ve successfully completed the pre-Master's programme, you’ll be granted admission to the Master’s programme in Sustainable Energy Technology (SET). If you have an international Bachelor's degree, you can only apply directly for the Master’s programme; you do not have the possibility to participate in a pre-Master’s. Today’s grand challenges – climate change, resource depletion, urbanization, ecological and socio-economic stress – call for professionals able to organize, manage and lead socio-technical change. This combined focus, on thinking and doing lies at the heart of the MEEM programme. Its social science-oriented Master’s programme will provide you with knowledge, skills and competencies in various social science disciplines, such as Management, Public Administration, Governance and Law. This will prepare you to lead and manage socio-technical change processes in the industrial, environmental, energy and water domains.
Three focal points in sustainable development
The core of this one-year, English-taught programme consists of three interconnected domains of sustainable development: environment, energy and water. The programme teaches the interrelated management and governance of these three crucial natural resources. Graduating in one of the three domains will prepare you for working with multidisciplinary teams in business, government, consultancy or (PhD) research anywhere in the world.

In particular there is a focus on preparing for reaching the new International Standard on Energy Management (ISO 50001).The course is divided into two parts. Part 1 is an 6 week online course in which participants, in their own time, participate in Webinars and on-line forums, undertake reading assignments, watch short videos, listen to presentations and complete short quizzes and written assignments. It is estimated that to complete the material participants will need 8 hours per week. All modules of Part 1 must be successfully completed before the start of Part 2 – the two week residential course. Part 2 consists of an assignment in which participants work in groups on an energy audit, that forms the basis of a plan to reach ISO50001. This component is supported by lectures, including guest lectures by leading specialists, presentations, case studies, discussions, and a site visit.
Venue – 5 weeks online through The University of Twente’s Website (14 November to 16 December 2016) 2 weeks residential in Enschede, the Netherlands (16 January to 27 January 2017).
