Workshop on „Gender, knowledge and participation in research for policy formulation- 15-16 March 2002; Hosted by Society for International Development (SID), Rome, Italy Organised by the EADI Working Group on Gender and Development
In recent years development policy has shown a move to giving more attention to social, human or even ethical and political issues with concepts gaining weight such as human development, knowledge, participation, civil society etc. The problems and opportunities of linking policy formulation to the new approaches in research methodology are being increasingly discussed. The positivist basis of knowledge production has been questioned, prompted by concerns about voice and representation and the relationship between researcher and researched. The gender dimension is central to the emerging debate and makes a vital contribution to it. The workshop on -Gender, knowledge and participation in research for policy formulation- evolved around these questions of research methodology and knowledge production; power relations; action research and participation, all within the context of the links between research and policy formulation.
