Working Group on Cooperation in Training
Forthcoming Activities
- Call for Papers - EADI / DSA Conference 2011, 19 - 22 September 2011, York
Rethinking Development in an Age of Scarcity and Uncertainty:
New Values, Voices and Alliances for Increased Resilience - The Working Group is currently exploring a new focus on Aid for International Education and Training. There would be synergies with the Aid Policy Working Group, but this refocusing of the Working Group on Cooperation in Education and Training would also have synergies with NORRAG membership in many European countries. There is a NORRAG meeting on 25-26 June 2009 which will provide an opportunity to take this EADI/NORRAG initiative further.
Recent Working Group activities
- The Working Group organised a session at the EADI General Conference in June 2008 on “Sustainable development for development studies and Development studies for sustainable development?” It also co-organised a roundtable on “Asymmetries in North-South Research Partnerships” at the EADI General Conference.

About this Working Group
The work of the Working Group on Co-operation in Training is concerned with a function that is shared by many EADI member institutes: providing training in development or area studies. The purpose of the Working Group is particularly to do with the changing content and theory of Development and Area Studies (DAS) training. The identity, legitimacy and interdisciplinary nature of DAS training are concerns of the Working Group. The Working Group also focusses on the relationship between DAS training in the European region and training in the very regions which are the subject of scientific study by most of the other EADI Working Groups.
