CEsA/EADI Seminar 2003 - Programme

Suburban development in the context of war and of political and economic change: Luanda and Maputo. An interdisciplinary approach

Lisbon, May 2nd, 2003

This Seminar presents the results of a research project carried out by CEsA and financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology within the framework of the PRAXIS XXI and POCTI Programmes. This project assesses the processes of "Accelerated Urbanisation in Luanda and Maputo" and analyses the impact of war and of the social and economic changes that occurred during the 1980's and 1990's. It was carried out by an inter-disciplinary team of social scientists (anthropologists, economists, sociologists, urbanists and demographers) and from various institutions in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique. The two lusophone African capital cities were submitted to an inter-disciplinary and comparative analysis.
